Funding Announced for 4 Sligo Walks

Today in Castlebar, Minister Michael Ring announced that funding of €225,000 has been allocated to develop 4 public walks in Sligo as part of the 2019 Outdoor Recreation Scheme. These walks are the Killaspugbrone Coastal Trail in Strandhill, Knocknashee Walking Trail, Lady Ann Trail and Aughris Head Walking Trail.

€59,620 has been allocated to the Aughris Head Walking Trail for upgrade and extension of the current coastal walk, the Lady Ann Trail, located at Clogherbeg near Sligo Town, has been allocated €64,856 for walking trail development and extension. The Killaspugbrone Coastal Trail has received €61,616 for the construction of a raised boardwalk and Knocknashee €40,000 for the upgrade of the walking trail.

Speaking following the launch, Michael Carty of Sligo County Council and SligoWalks.ie welcomed the announcement of funding. “It’s a significant investment which will help provide the infrastructure required  to help us further enhance the wonderful walks we have in Sligo,” he said. “With so many scenic walks all around the county, Sligo has the potential to develop itself as a major walking destination. Continued investment of this kind is crucial in developing the walks and in helping us grow the tourism potential in this sector, and we welcome this announcement from Minister Ring today.”
