Hazelwood, Union Wood & Benbulben Forest Walk Reopen

Some Sligo Walks which have been closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic have now been re-opened. Up until the Covid-19 shutdown, the walks at Benbulben Forest Walk at Gortarowey, Union Wood and Hazelwood, were among the most popular walks in Sligo.

Now, ahead of the June Bank Holiday weekend, the good news for walkers is that they are now open for walkers and to enable them to park their vehicles.

However, with sunny weather expected throughout the weekend, walkers are reminded to ensure they take social distancing measures into consideration while walking. It is also recommended that you choose a time of day when the walks may be quieter, such as early morning or evening, to avoid any possible congestion.

While the walks are now open, as with everything, the situation remains under review, so we appeal to walkers to think of others in relation to parking, walking in small groups while retaining the 2m social distancing rule. As we know some of the access routes and paths at these locations are narrow, so all the more reason to be conscious of these rules now that a gentle easing of restrictions has come into place.
