Sligo Walking Series – Queen Maeve’s Cairn Video with Stefan Bergh

Archaeologist Dr. Stefan Bergh brings us on a walk to the summit of Knocknarea in County Sligo, where the huge Queen Maeve’s Cairn stands on the summit. During his walk, Stefan explains the origins of the Cairn, and how UNESCO World Heritage Site status is now being applied for to protect this 5,000 year old structure, and also he tells us why this place was of such importance to our ancient people for the burying of their dead.

This walk is part of the Sligo Walking Series, and is free to the public, under Covid-19 restrictions on groups gathering in public places. Promoted by Sligo County Council through Healthy Ireland, and with the support of the Community Monuments Fund, Sligo Walks and Trailgazers.
