Temporary Closure of part of Queen Maeve Trail

Walkers should note that access from the Strandhill entrance to the Queen Maeve Trail on Knocknarea will close to the public temporarily from 12pm midday of Thursday 21st December and will reopen at 12pm midday on Friday 22nd December.

Access to the trail from the Rathcarrick and Knocknarea car park entrances remains unchanged. Therefore, walkers planning to walk the Queen Maeve Trail during the times indicated above should gain access to the trail via the old car park on the Glen Road (also known as the Knocknarea Car Park), or via the entrance to the woods at Rathcarrick.

The only part of the trail impacted by this temporary closure is the part between the start of the Strandhill access (at Sligo Rugby Club) to the top of the steps (the second kissing gate) where walkers meet the tree line. See the image below for details.

The trail will be fully reopened at 12pm midday on Friday 22nd December.

We wish walkers well during the holiday season. Please ensure you give yourself plenty of time to do these walks in daylight and allow for changes in weather. We have a series of safety videos on the SligoWalks.ie website which we recommend all walkers should use to carefully and safely plan for their walk.
