Outdoor recreation sites in Sligo have received a major funding boost of €594,000 today.

As part of a national allocation of €6.5m for outdoor recreational amenities, three walks in Sligo will receive funding.
Benbulben Forest Walk in Gortarowey will receive €198,000, as will the walk at Lough Talt in the south of the county. And more exciting news will see the development of the Lady Anne Walk, linking Hazelwood and Sligo town. This means that, once this development has been completed, people will be able to walk all the way from Sligo to Hazelwood for what is sure to become a very popular walk for visitors and for the people of Sligo.

Michael Carty of Sligo Walks welcomed the new announcement by saying: “This is another wonderful news story for Sligo. We’ve been working hard over the years to develop new walks and to add to our existing ones. This new funding announcement today will mean that Sligo will have greater opportunities to develop our walking infrastructure for the benefit of our communities, and to entice visitors to come to our county.”
